Demetra (Mimi) Seriki resides in Colorado Springs, CO, where she grew up and met her husband of 20 years. Together they have three adult children and two still at home. Demetra recently completed her Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery at Midwives College of Utah (MCU). Demetra also received her Certified Nurse’s Assistant Certificate in 1998 at Pikes Peak Community College (PPCC). Since that time, Demetra continued to further her education in medical management as a Registered Medical Manager, Registered Medical Coder, and a Certified Professional Medical Auditor. Over the last 16 years Demetra has worked in medical administration with physicians in multiple specialties such as Family Practice, Pediatrics, Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy, Pulmonology, and Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Demetra began attending births at the age of sixteen in the hospital setting, supporting teenage mother's as labor support in her local community. Demetra spent 31 weeks and 5 days in an extensive apprenticeship training program in Utah working under the direct supervision of BOTH CNM's (Certified Nurse Midwives) and CPM's (Certified Professional Midwifes). Serving four HIGH volume birth centers and home births on a 24/7 call schedule. Her training included management of prenatal care, labor, labor/birth emergencies, postpartum care complications and emergencies, newborn assessments/screenings, interpretation of labs and ultrasounds reports.
In the spring of 2015, Demetra successfully passed the national NARM (Northern American Registry of Midwives) exam and completed the portfolio evaluation process (PEP). As such, Demetra is currently a Registered Midwife in the state of Colorado.
Although Demetra is a practicing home birth midwife in Colorado, her aspiration is to open access and remove barriers in communities of color during the childbearing years. Therefore, Demetra will be returning to school Fall 2017 in pursuit of becoming a Certified Nurse Midwife.
"For me, pregnancy and birth is the most sacred process in life. Birth is and continues to be perfect in its design. It can never be duplicated and is uniquely woven into your womb, no matter where you give birth."
