During my labor and my pregnancy Mimi was very essential to my family and I. She built a relationship with us, trust, and a bond that can never be broken. Knowing that my husband and I wanted everything as natural as possible, she made that happen, whether through my diet or a natural supplement. Mimi never forced anything on us and always let us know that we had a voice. Mimi was very knowledgeable on different things I went through at the time and how to cure these things. There was never a time we were uncomfortable or afraid with the advice she gave. During my labor Mimi talked with me and made me feel comfortable. She coached me the entire time so I always knew what was going on. Mimi allowed me to labor the best way for me which made me feel safe. With the love and support of Tricia and Stephanie also, we welcomed our beautiful daughter into this world. Mimi and Tricia were always by our side and helped the best way possible. They were and will forever be important to our family because they taught us and built a relationship with me and my family, I knew I couldn't find that anywhere else. We will continue to have Mimi as our midwife for our children to come, she is absolutely the best! We love you Mimi!

Baby Zion
I'm going to take the next couple days to thank my supportive team who made Zion's healthy birth possible in the comfort of our own home. Today's thanks are dedicated to the amazing midwifery crew at A Mother's Choice - Birth Options and Beyond. I spent months trying to find a midwife of color who would understand my history of sexual trauma, be compassionate to me being nonbinary, and respect our wishes to be as natural as possible with Zion's birth. It was imperative that I experience birth naturally, because I feel that giving birth is the most magical event a human can experience: literally the act of creation. Hospitals make it seem like a medical procedure and often push for unnatural induction processes, pumping you with drugs to numb the magic, and possibly even perform surgery if you don't give birth fast enough for them. Being in tune to my health and lifestyle, I knew that going the midwife route was the only option for me. With the help of my doula Briana, Demetra and I connected - an instant match. Mimi, Stephanie, and Trish have been professional and nurturing throughout our time together. They've made us feel like family, which was important for my birth process, trust and comfortability. I felt safer in their care than I ever would have in a busied money-driven hospital. Under their care, I felt safe giving birth with no pain medication or medical intervention. There were times when I buckled and said I couldn't do it, but they assured me that I was so close to meeting Zion. They made sure Zion and I stayed safe and thriving. While I was far away in a labor mindset, they swiftly set-up and stayed steps ahead; I wasn't ever left wondering or feeling stagnant. Our family culture was respected from Zion's nonbinary status, down to a burning ritual of the umbilical cord. I feel absolutely blessed to have been able to work with such a caring staff and hope our relationships last far beyond this experience. Much love and respect to y'all. 💞💕

I had a fairly traumatic birth experience, but I won't bore you with the details. What I will tell you is that my prenatal care with Mimi and her team was unbelievable, my birth experience regarding them was unforgettably amazing, and I couldn't have gotten through the first six weeks postpartum without them.
During my prenatal visits, I felt heard, cared for, comfortable, and genuine love. I meticulously planned a beautiful home birth, and I felt so safe and comforted that Mimi would be an intregal part of it. She really made me feel like I had a choice in everything I was doing, and that's exactly what I was looking for -- autonomy over my body and my birth.
Unfortunately, I developed symptoms of severe preeclampsia just past 34 weeks, and was hospitalized and induced immediately, so I ultimately lost that autonomy. Mimi, Stephanie, and Tricia came to the hospital shortly after I was admitted. They walked me through important and scary medical decisions I never thought I'd have to make. I believe they are a huge reason I was able to have a vaginal birth. They stayed the entire two days and three nights I was in labor. I will repeat that: they stayed by my side, in the hospital, even though they had no obligation to do so, for HALF OF FRIDAY, ALL OF SATURDAY, AND HALF OF SUNDAY (I had my son at 2:34pm on a Sunday with Mimi holding my hand). Literally, y'all, they slept in the waiting room. I never could've done it without them. I was so scared, uncomfortable, sick, and sad, but looking back on my birth, I had a room full of people who cared about and supported me.
I know I've already said enough, but my postpartum care was also amazing. Because my son was in the NICU, breastfeeding was a struggle. But Mimi and Stephanie knew it was painfully important to me, and they made it possible.
Mimi just exudes love. It's impossible to describe. You can tell that this is what she was put on this earth to do, and she knows it. Thanks to her, Stephanie, and Tricia, I can look back on my birth with joy and relief instead of regret and anxiety. I didn't get the birth I wanted, but if that's not empowerment through birth, I don't know what is. Thanks to A Mother's Choice for making that possible for me.

Prenatal care at A Mother's Choice was amazing; their knowledge and compassion throughout our journey was stellar. We never felt like "just another patient" as the entire staff all seemed genuinely interested in our overall health (mine and baby's). They also went above and beyond in how our whole family was supported - older kids and husband too. As well as checking in on our emotional well being leading up to our birth and after.
I really appreciated the calm, peaceful atmosphere that Mimi and her team brought to our birth. They did not rush, and instead encouraged and supported us through the process at our very slow pace.
Mimi truly was a guardian of my sacred space. We cannot thank her and her team enough, and we are so grateful of the
care, attention, and support. More than words can express.

A Mother's Choice,
My husband and I knew we wanted a home birth and with moving back to Colorado midterm in my pregnancy were worried about finding a midwife. We were looking for a midwife that was more than just qualified but also made us feel comfortable and safe. After tireless searching we had finally found someone that made us feel good, confident and ready to face this nerve-racking change in our lives. Within minutes of meeting you (Mimi) and your team we knew we had found the best fit.
The team was very in tune with the needs of our family, and also with the individual needs of both my husband and me. You supported us both equally, making the pregnancy and birth about OUR family and not just about me, which was very important. The team was always welcoming of questions and concerns, even when those questions popped up on nights or weekends.
We were excited for our home birth and I was fearful of a transfer. However, due to circumstances beyond our control I had to be transferred to the hospital and my labor induced. When this decision had to be made you and your team were more supportive than I could have ever imagined. I was terrified of the hospital and a hospital birth but because of all of you at A Mother's Choice I had a wonderful birth. The support, care and wealth of knowledge from you and your team took a scary situation and made it a wonderful one.
The best part is you and your team did not stop there. Due to issues with breastfeeding the hospital did not want to discharge us, you and your team showed up to the hospital to show the support I had, and the hospital discharged us. The postpartum support, help and care is unbelievable. Babies do come with a training manual; it's called A Mother's Choice.
I desperately wanted to breastfeed and had many issues with it. You and your team were so supportive and gave us options like the Supplemental Nursing System, which I had never heard of. The postpartum emotional chaos I went through was rough but you and your team were always just a phone call away, and no matter when or why I called you were always warm, welcome, and supportive.
There truly are not enough words to describe how wonderful A Mother's Choice is, and we look forward to the team joining our family for our second pregnancy and birth.

A Mother’s Choice
Dear Mimi and Staff,
When my daughter first told me that she and her husband wanted to have a home birth with a midwife, my heart stopped. There were multiple concerns, qualifications, experience, and many, many ‘what if’ scenarios.
You and my daughter then invited me to one of her appointments. By the time we were halfway through the appointment, you had won me over. The knowledge exhibited by you and your staff was staggering. Much has changed since I was a young wife expecting a child and even my limited knowledge was well out of date. You answered all my questions, predicting many. You made it easy for me to fully support my daughter’s choice. But the best was yet to come.
When it was evident that my daughter was not going to get her wish of home birth, you called it immediately, no ego entanglements, no delay. Then in a continuing series of surprises, you and your staff served as my daughter’s labor team in the hospital spending the entire time with her, supporting her and her husband (an oft-forgotten participant in birth).
But you weren’t done! You and / or a member of your staff made visits to the hospital until she was discharged, then came to check on her and baby (and Daddy) several times the first month. You were on call to her 24/7, without delay and without complaint, never short or grumpy with her. Your support was unflagging.
It is nearly impossible to express how pleased and happy I am that she and her husband found you. When she is expecting again in a couple of years, we will all be back. Thank you and your staff for all the support, love, and kindness you showed us.
Highest regards,
SH. Family
I hired Mimi and her staff for the birth of my first child, Hope. Mimi immediately made my husband and I feel welcome when we came to interview her and every subsequent visit after that was like an emotional spa for my pregnant heart.
I just loved the care that Mimi and her staff provided us; such attention and compassion. We ended up having to go to the hospital for Hope to be born and Mimi was both accurate and attentive before, during and after this process. I was in labor for 72 hour total...50 at home and another 22 at the hospital. Mimi and her staff never left my side and helped me through what could have been a traumatic experience but her help, instruction and care helped make it just a long experience. :) Mimi was not only present during the entire hospital birth experience but she and her staff were actively involved in emotionally caring for me and helping my husband and I make informed decisions. Ultimately, she made a medical call where the doctors at the hospital ended up coming to the same conclusion...just much later.
I highly recommend Mimi and A Mother's Choice to you. My husband and I feel it was money well spent. Mimi and her staff did a great job preparing us not only for the birth but also walking with us in parenthood afterwards. My pregnancy journey was wonderful and Mimi and her staff were a stable and brilliant highlight of it.

Demetra was with me from preconception. She was always caring and more than willing to support me anytime I needed her. Around 16 weeks of my pregnancy, we thought I was going to lose my baby. Demetra was more than a provider in this time of need; she was a friend, a sister, and most importantly a shoulder to cry on. Thankfully my baby survived and went on to have a very normal pregnancy.
I was terrified of my pending labor and birth during the weeks before my due date. I was constantly questioning whether or not I would be able to have my natural birth at home. Demetra continued to remind me that I was strong and able. I remember her telling me that as soon as I trusted my body and myself that only then would I go into labor and meet my sweet baby boy. That day I had a long talk with her about my fears and concerns and I was able to finally feel at ease about my upcoming labor and birth. I went into labor that same night.
At 3:15am I was pretty sure I was in labor but was not sure if I needed Demetra to come to my house. I was irrationally fearful that I would not be in real labor and did not want to be a “bother” to my midwife. I decided to give Demetra a heads up that my contractions were now every 4 minutes but that I did not need her to come yet. Demetra was extremely encouraging and let me know that as soon as I needed her she would be on her way to me. At 3:30am my contractions shifted and I just knew that I was in active labor. I called Demetra back and asked her to come to my home.
The entire time I was waiting for Demetra to come to my home I was having a mini “freak out”. I kept questioning whether or not I was going to be able to do this. I contemplated throwing in the towel and just heading to the hospital. When Demetra arrived, I was in the middle of a contraction. I had my eyes closed and was trying to focus on my contraction but all I could think of was “thank god she is here with me!” As soon as my contraction was over, I opened my eyes and threw my arms around Demetra. She embraced me in a hug and I instantly knew I was safe, I was strong, and I could do this! Demetra continued to support me and help me change positions and stay relaxed and at ease. At 9:02 in the morning my sweet little boy was born! He had perfect APGAR’s and I had no tear and almost no bleeding. I did it! I truly owe it all to my midwife! I never could have done it without her!

When I was pregnant, I chose to use midwives at a birth center as my care providers. Mimi was the student midwife I saw along with the head midwife throughout my pregnancy. I felt like I really became friends with Mimi and the midwife I saw almost every appointment. I looked forward to the days I got to go in and visit with them. Toward the very end of my pregnancy my blood pressure began to rise. I have a family history of pregnancy induced hypertension, and preeclampsia, so I was worried. Mimi was such a comfort during this time. She really took care of me and helped me calm down. She even massaged my feet with clary sage oil when we decided to pursue a natural induction in hopes of delivering before my BP was too high for out of hospital care. She brought my BP down a lot! She felt like a mom to me. During my birthing time, she was very hands off except for every half hour when she checked heart tones. During transition, I really did not think I could do it. One of my favorite moments from my birth is right after I pushed my daughter out and was holding her in my arms. I kept saying "I did it! I did it!" and Mimi said to me "I never doubted you!" Oh, it was so special. She was a cheerleader and had so much love for me. Birth is an experience we only get to have a few times in our lives, and I am grateful I got to share one of my births with Mimi.

I met Mimi right after I flew into Utah at 38 weeks pregnant. Naturally, I was very nervous about switching providers, especially that late in my pregnancy and to someone I had never met. My husband and I both immediately fell in love with her reassuring and bubbly demeanor. She was very supportive of our decisions and very respectful and gentle in her exam.
When I went into labor, she was able to calm me down and reassure me that everything was going to be okay and several times in labor, she was able to bring me back to focus. She was great about staying back and allowing me to do what I needed to cope and she only checked my progress when necessary. I loved that she never told me what to do or forced me into any positions I didn't want. She was extremely mindful of my feelings and my progress and completely amazed me with how she instinctively knew when it was time for me to push.
She delivered my son beautifully and was so thoughtful in giving me as long as I wanted to hold him before checking his weight, height and head circumference. She was very thorough in explaining my "going home" instructions and even called me the next day to check on me.
This was my first un-medicated birth and my first birth in a birthing center. I give so much credit to Mimi for making it such a wonderful experience. I will definitely be using her for my next birth!
My home birth experience was a dream come true. I had always wanted to have a natural birth but was never able to achieve this goal. I finally was able to have the birth I had always dreamed of thanks to my wonderful midwife, Demetra Seriki.
